What are GSD files?

GSD (device data) files are simple text files which are required to configure a Profibus® network. For each device with a Profibus® interface there exists one definitive GSD file, which is identified by an unique identity code assigned by the Profibus® User Organization (PNO).

What does the GSD file contain?

The GSD file describes transmission rates, operation, response times and format of the data received/sent by the PLC.

How is the GSD imported into the configuration software?

Depending on the configuration software used, the GSD file can be copied into a special directory of your configuration tool. Some Configurations support an import option in the menu for adding GSD files to their database.
